Hollyoaks - Wednesday 17 August 2011

Oh my God!  So today’s Hollyoaks was really good!  There was bitchy fighting, lies, shock and assault.  There was no Lynsey and Silas today which is good because you don’t want that to all end really.  We did see more of Bart, Jason and Sinead, Brendan, Ste and Declan as well as Jackie and Rhys.  We also got a bit of Teresa and Liberty.

We’ll start with Teresa and Liberty because they were the most boring today and only had a little part.  So they are getting their exam results and are really nervous.  Teresa doesn’t think she passed anything and that she should have worked harder because she could then have made something of her life.  No good thinking about that now is there?  Anyway they get their results and we see other people crying about back marks.  We then find out that they have not yet opened their envelopes.  What a surprise.  As you can obviously tell I was really bored with this little beginning of a story line.

Now onto something a bit more exciting but not really what made the show today so good.  Jackie and Rhys are setting up to rig the pub quiz.  Unfortunately for Rhys who has to remember all the answers Terry, the dog, ate them.  I had a bit of a question here though.  If Jackie was in charge of the questions should Rhys even be allowed to participate?  Anyway Dodger is the one who is doing the pub quiz and of course has his own man placed to win the thing.  Jackie sort of gets a hint that something is up.  During a break Dodger goes to the bathroom but forgets to turn off his mike, which is attached to his shirt.  Jackie who followed him is not in the main pub area so she doesn’t know about the mike thing.  So as any crooks obviously do Jackie talks about how Rhys is supposed to win and Dodger says about the man he placed and now everyone knows they set out to rig the quiz.  They get thrown out and disqualified from the quiz.  It’s actually a lot better then I make it out to be.

Anyway onto the more interesting bits.  Sinead, Jason and Bart are still in the woods.  Seriously how long are they going to stay there?  Sinead is dreaming about having a bubble bath with Bart but wakes to Jason and Bart laughing and is not a happy bunny.  There is then another confrontation between Jason and Sinead with Sinead saying that Bart just pities Jason to which Jason replies; you wish.  The three are then off to do whatever they do and come across a farm house.  The place looks a little dilapidated but Bart and Jason decide to go in to see if there is any food there.  The place is a mess and Sinead is all like we shouldn’t be doing this.  She then gets stuck in the bathroom and Bart kicks down the door.  They found some beans in the kitchen but can’t find a can opener.  Bart goes down to the cellar to see if there is a way of getting some electricity for the place.  While he’s gone Jason says to Sinead that maybe she’s the one that’s in the way.  There’s a noise and Jason goes to investigate but it’s just Bart who has cobwebs in his hair.  Sinead sees Jason pulling the cobwebs out and says that she’s leaving, that she hopes they’ll be happy and that Jason won.  I really don’t like Sinead that much but I felt a little bit sorry for her when she ran off.  While Bart and Jason are now looking around the house for Sinead because she’s obviously going to still be there the owner of the place comes back.  We leave the two of them facing the barrel of a shotgun!

So all that’s left is Brendan, Declan and Ste.  So Brendan and Declan are walking to the club and Ste is outside.  Declan greets him but Brendan is not impressed when Declan asks Ste to kick the football around with him.  He then says he has to work and gives Declan some money to go to the movies.  He then confronts Ste and says Declan is at an impressionable age he doesn’t want Ste around him.  Yes because gay is a disease that you can catch.  Anyway Ste says he doesn’t care and he’s looking for a new job so Brendan won’t have to worry.  Brendan confronts Ste again in the club stating that he hopes Ste doesn’t want a reference from him.  Ste says he’s going to go back into cooking and there is a place looking for cooks.  He then tells Brendan that he really thought they could make it work when they planned to go on holiday together with the kids and he knows that deep down Brendan wanted that too but now it’s too late.  I have to say Ste with a backbone is great!  Brendan is in the office when Ste next talks to him and he says that everything is done downstairs.  It then gets to Ste saying that Brendan can’t expect him to wash glasses for the rest of his life and that while he was on holiday he had a lot of time to think and he wants something better for his kids.  Brendan does his don’t leave Stephen thing but Ste is having none of it and turns to leave.  Then Brendan does the most shocking thing of the episode.  He hits Ste so hard the he basically flies across the room.  He is going in to hit him again when he hears someone call him and it’s Declan!  So Declan runs off and Ste is checking out the bruising in the bathroom.  Brendan comes in and tries to sooth him but Ste wants none of that and says he’s going to the cops about this.  Brendan follows Ste the cops and just outside the cops convinces Ste to not go in.  We then find that Brendan’s dad used to hit him and it made him feel weak because he couldn’t stand up to him.  Then before his dad left he did hit him back and he felt the control and power come back to him.  It’s sad really but not an excuse to hit Ste really.  Ste says that if he reports Brendan then he can get help but Brendan convinces him to not do it because he will go to prison and what will his sons think.  So Ste gives him an ultimatum: tell Declan about being gay or he goes to the cops.

I can’t wait for more from Hollyoaks because it’s getting really interesting.  I do have a feeling that they’re not going to give me more Brendan and Ste for a bit though.
